NASA scientists claims: There’ll be more floods by 2030s

According to data from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), by the mid-2030s, floods will increase rapidly all over the world, especially in the United States, and this increase is related to the neighboring moon. A NASA study showed that the moon’s “wobbly” orbit and the rise in sea level of Earth caused by climate change will cause devastating floods on the earth.

These floods currently occur in coastal areas where tides are approximately 2 feet higher than the average daytime tide. Floods are called “nuisance floods”. These events affect the daily life of many. Unexpected floods are expected to occur more frequently and irregularly by the mid-2030s. According to a NASA study, the tide has quadrupled in at least ten years.

“Low-lying areas near sea level are facing increasing risks and flooding, and the situation will only get worse,” said NASA Director Bill Nelson. “The combination of lunar gravity, sea-level rise and climate change will further exacerbate coastal flooding on our coasts and around the world.”

The study also predicts that these floods will sometimes appear in groups during this period, lasting for a month or longer time, depending on the location of the moon, earth, and sun. “When the moon and the earth align with each other and the sun in a special way, the resulting ocean gravity and reaction can cause urban residential areas to be flooded very often or even every day,” according to a study by NASA members of the Hawaii University.

“Half of the 18.6-year lunar cycle repelled the sea level rise at high tide, and the other half enhanced the effect exceptionally. The moon is now in the tidal zone. However, most of the coastline of the United States is at sea. The water level has not increased, so even with this with lunar aid, tides often exceed the high-water threshold.

Sea level will continue to rise in the next ten years. Research shows that due to the lunar cycle aid and the high seas, flooding will increase on almost all the continental coasts of the United States, Hawaii, and Guam. Regarding the impact, Phil Thompson, an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii and the lead author of the study, compares floods with storm surges caused by hurricanes.
