Florida man, 29, faces charge against committing hate crime on Black man

United States: The assistant attorney general Kristen Clarke of the Civil Rights Division, as well as the United States Attorney Roger Handberg for the Middle District of Florida, has made the announcement that a federal grand jury in Tampa, Florida, has been returned a two-count indictment charging the 29-year-old, named Jordan Patrick Leahy with committing the hate crimes for his racially-motivated attack on a Black man who was driving on a public road in Seminole, Florida. 

On August 8, 2021, the charge on the 29-year-old claims that he willfully intimidated as well as interfered with the black man named J.T., and Leahy was attempted to injure him from his dangerous vehicle from Lethy’s vehicle because of the colour and race of the black man, and he was travelling on a public road in Seminole, Florida. 

Moreover, as per the indictment, the girlfriend and daughter of J.T were also with him when this incident took place, and Leahy attacked them. 

Along with this, the 29-year-old faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, along with the three years of supervised release, as well as a fine of up to $250,000. 

The indictment is only an accusation, as well as the defendant, is presumed innocent unless he or she is proven guilty. 

In addition, the case was investigated by the FBI, the Pinellas Sheriff’s Office as well as the Florida Highway Patrol. 

Furthermore, the Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlton Gammons for the Middle District of Florida, as well as the Trial Attorneys David Reese and Laura-Kate Bernstein of the Civil Rights Division, are prosecuting the case.
