Utah man accused of raping, torturing and murdering vulnerable adult

Alaska, United States A man from Utah has been accused of torturing, raping as well as murdering a vulnerable adult.

The Homer police department mentioned in the statement that the 32-year-old Kirby F. Calderwood was apprehended on Monday by police officials in Ogden, Utah.

On Saturday, he was charged with the first- and second-degree murder, kidnapping as well as tampering with evidence in the demise of Anesha “Duffy” Murnane, as per the sources.

Moreover, Murnane went missing on October 17, 2019, when she set out for a mile walk from her house to a Homer medical clinic for an appointment but was never noticed again.

The authorities allege Calderwood picked her up and drove her to the unoccupied apartment home of his girlfriend’s parents, where he assaulted and tortured her before killing her. The girlfriend was not in the town, according to the affidavit from an investigator with the police department.

Along with this, Murnane’s body has not been recovered yet.

Calderwood is being held on $1 million bails in Utah. Authorities say he was from Homer at the time when Murnane disappeared, as well as he was known to her from working at her supported housing complex and the other social programs.

The police officer stated that Calderwood was already an individual of interest as well as interviewed about the incident in 2021 before a tipster called Kenai Peninsula Crimestoppers in Alaska in the month of April, saying he talked to them about the kidnapping and death of Murnane.

In addition, the tipster also highlighted Calderwood had a woman’s Timex watch he took from the victim.

When Oden police executed a search warrant at Calderwood’s home, they mentioned that they discovered a Timex watch that was similar to the description that Murnane’s parents shared with the police.

Furthermore, Ogden police outlined that they found one of the missing person flyers distributed with Murnane’s picture on it.

After being questioned by the detectives in Alaska, Calderwood escaped to Utah, Utah prosecutors mentioned in the documents.
