Would reverse Donald Trump’s ban, if bid for Twitter gets successful, says Elon Musk

United States: The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, has stated that if he successfully buys Twitter, he will alter Donald Trump’s ban from the microblogging platform.

The CEO of Tesla Motors has said yes to a $44bn (£34.5bn) takeover bid with the Twitter board in the previous month.

Moreover, he mentioned that it was not a promise, but he said that he was going to complete it in the coming two to three months.

The decision that has been made to ban the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, is “morally wrong and flat-out stupid,” says Musk while having a conversation during an interview.

Along with this, in January 2021, Twitter stated that Mr Trump’s account was “permanently suspended… because of the risk of further incitement of violence.”

The owner of Tesla said, “I would reverse the permanent ban, but I do not own the Twitter application yet, so this is not a thing that will surely happen.”

He highlighted that the ban had not muted Mr Trump, but by making him move onto his own Truth Social site, it had strengthened his voice among the far right.

In addition, he outlined that Mr Trump had previously mentioned that he would not return to Twitter even if his account were reinstated.

The investor and business tycoon said he had spoken to Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey related to locking users out of their social media accounts in response to offensive tweets.

However, he noted, “He and I are of the same mind that permanent bans should be extremely rare and reserved for accounts that are bots or scam accounts.”

Furthermore, Musk stated if someone tweeted something “illegal or otherwise destructive to the world”, there should be a temporary suspension, or the post should be made invisible.

“Victory would be the far-right 10%, and the far left 10% are equally upset,” he outlined.
