California: Man arrested for stabbing doctor, nurses at hospital

United States: In Los Angeles, a man has stabbed a doctor and two of the nurses inside a southern California hospital emergency ward. According to the authorities, he remained inside a room for hours before police apprehended him.

The man has walked into Encino Hospital Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley shortly before 4 p.m on Friday, as per the Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison.

The man had parked his vehicle in the mid of a street and went to the emergency room, where he asked for the treatment for anxiety before stabbing the doctor and nurses, says the authorities.

Moreover, the fire officials mentioned that three victims were transported to the trauma centre in critical condition, and the police later mentioned that one was in critical condition and underwent surgery.

Along with this, all of the three were later listed in stable condition at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Centre.
The first floor of the Encino hospital & some nearby offices were evacuated, said the police officials.

LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton mentioned in the statement, “We’ve moved patients out of the danger zone.”

Meanwhile, Hamilton added in the statement that there was no evidence that the man knew the victims.

The man remained in a room in the hospital for about four hours as SWAT team members tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with him before he was finally arrested says the police.

Afterwards, he was taken to another hospital for the treatment of self-inflicted injuries to his arms, as per the authorities.

The identity of the man was not actually released, but Hamilton mentioned that he had a lengthy criminal record, including two arrests in the previous year for a battery of a police officer and resisting arrest.
