Russia steps into 100th day of its invasion of Ukraine

Russia has called for a full-fledged military assault against Ukraine to “demilitarize” and “denazify” the country on February 24. Russia has achieved few of its military objectives and has suffered huge fatalities in its failed assaults throughout the country some 100 days later.

Russia has constantly decreased and devalued its aims during the war. Russia’s attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, which was intended to besiege it, became unsustainable due to inadequate logistics and tough Ukrainian opposition. Ukrainian troops withstood further attacks on important Ukrainian cities such as Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy.

Ukrainian soldiers held out for about three months in Mariupol, which had been virtually entirely devastated by incessant Russian bombardment. They were besieged within the grounds of the former Azovstal steel complex.

According to the Ukrainian army, this last stand prevented 20,000 Russian troops from going to other parts of Ukraine.

Russia now controls over 20% of Ukraine, including vast swaths of land in the country’s south (Kherson Oblast) and regions of the Donbas, where conflict is centered. In the east of the nation, where Russian soldiers are seeking to conquer the cities of Lysychansk and Severodonetsk, Ukrainian forces are struggling to contain Russian offensives.

The war’s current losses are difficult to measure. According to Ukrainian army numbers, approximately 30,000 Russian personnel have been killed in the fighting so far, although only about 3,000 can be formally validated.

Ukrainian losses are likewise difficult to estimate, but the Ukrainian government has revealed that it is losing up to 100 people every day in the Donbas defense.

Russian soldiers are presently being investigated for crimes in the cities of Irpin, Bucha, Mariupol, Chernihiv, Makariv, and Kramatorsk, where the conflict in Ukraine has decimated civilian infrastructure.

The United Nations has recognized a total of 4,149 civilian deaths in Ukraine, but the exact statistics are anticipated to be significantly higher. Around 4.7 million Ukrainians have been displaced by the war, with many fleeing to Poland, Germany, Czechia, and other European nations.

Along with this, Belgium has got about 40,000 refugees from Ukraine and predicts that it may received up to 200,000 at the time of course of conflict.
Furthermore, with Kyiv firmly in the hand of war-torn Ukraine, refugees are already starting to return home, with nearly 2 million people crossing back over the border to Ukraine.
