United States: A 13-year-old, Alena Analeigh Wicker, is like the other children that enjoy going to the movies, playing soccer and baking. She just got approved for medical school.
Alena mentioned in the statement, “I’m still a normal 13-year-old,” who is a student at both Arizona State University as well as Oakwood University, where she is working on two different undergraduate degrees in biological sciences. “I just have good time management skills.”
Moreover, in the month of May, Wicker was offered a spot at the University of Alabama’s Heersink School of medicine for 2024, which provides early admission for applicants who meet specific requirements. Alena is over ten years younger than the average incoming medical student.
“What is age?” Alena stated that she lives outside Fort Worth as well as is completing most of her courses online. “You’re not too young to do anything. I feel like I have proven myself that I can do anything that I put my heart as well as mind to.”
Alena was 3-year-old when she started noticing that she was far from a typical toddler. Daphne McQuarter, her mother, stated that he was god gifted. “It was just how she did things and how advanced she was. She was reading chapter books.”
Alena mentioned that learning new skills came easily to her, and once she started school, she was sometimes taunted for her scholastic talents.
Furthermore, “There was a little boy that bullied me, and he would tease me and call me ‘smarty pants,’” Alena said, adding that her mother made the decision to home-school her for several years after the bullying started.
In the fifth grade, she switched to traditional schooling, though she continued to take advanced high school-level courses at home, using a curriculum her mother created. At the time of the pandemic, Alena decided to expand her course load even more.
For Alena, algebra was easy. Geometry was intuitive. Biology was a breeze.
