Washington States Hospital shows concern about spike in COVID-19 infections: Reports

United States: The Washington States Hospital Association confirmed that they are concerned about the recent increase in the COVID-19 infection. The hospitals all over the state are in crisis mode. But in spite of an uptick in COVID-19 cases, the pandemic is not the biggest culprit.
The crisis is primarily because of the lack of staff and delay in discharges.
Moreover, Taya Briley, WSHA executive vice president shared the information in the statement, “We are doing our best, but majority of our hospitals, specifically on the west side of our state from the populated areas of Pierce, King & Snohomish counties, are more strained today than really at any other point since the pandemic began.”
Around 20 per cent of the patients are not being discharged as soon as they should be. These are generally patients that have received therapy & should now be in a nursing home or long-term care facility rather than hospital room.
“The patients that are stuck in these health care centers are tying up thousands of nurses along with other staff members who should be taking care of patients who have acute care needs,” says Briley.
All over the state, between 10 per cent and 20 per cent of hospitals beds are being taken up by individuals who no longer required hospital care, as per the sources.
Along with this, Briley stated, “This is also terrible for the patients that are stuck in the hospitals. These folks needed to be in nursing homes & adult family homes or receiving home care services. When they are stuck in healthcare facilities, they are unable to go outside & socialize with others, or haging the kind of quality of life that they really require and deserve.”
Furthermore, this means that people who come to a hospital with conditions that needed emergency or inpatient treatment are not always able to get the timely care they need.
