Indiana: Explosion at house kills 3 people

United States: A house explosion in Evansville, Indiana, kills three people on Wednesday. The whole street was messed up with house wreckages, and the blast damaged more than 40 other buildings. Evansville fire department Chief Mike Connelly said the explosion damaged about 40 homes and had a blast radius of 100 feet(38.4) meters. The explosion left 11 houses uninhabitable. It is not yet confirmed what caused this explosion.

The explosion was just reported before 1 pm., according to a photo Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke posted to social media. The blast destroyed the house where it happened, and nearby homes suffered heavy damage.

Evansville Police shut down nearby streets, and a spokeswoman department situated on the residential street where the explosion occurred is closed.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office confirmed three people died in this explosion. Connelly also said the search for the victim is not completed and still going on. There could still be other victims, and the buildings are not safe yet to enter. The American red cross helped the families affected by the explosion.

The mayor also shared his thoughts about the explosion. He said the scene was devastating, and it will take time to figure out what happened there.

“I’ve seen photos that have been shared online, but once I reached up to the residence itself and saw the devastation with my own eyes, it was, I mean, it was a gut punch,” Winnecke said.

“Across the street from the explosion, you’ll see house after house that has windows blown out, that has you know there’s insulation blown out from homes,” the mayor added.

A structural collapsed team was sent in to survey the buildings.
More agencies were seen on sight, including the State fire marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives and the State Fire Marshal.
