U.S. announce $1 billion for new arms aid for Ukraine

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon announced $1 billion in military aid for Ukraine this Monday, August 8, 2022. This aid includes precision missiles for the Himmer system that will help Kyiv’s forces to attack Russian forces far from the front lines.

According to the U.S. department of defence, this package also contains surface-to-air missiles to defend against Russian aircraft and missiles, javelin anti-armour rockets, and many types of ammunition are all critical capabilities to help the Ukrainians repel the Russian offensive in the east and also address evolving these developments in the south elsewhere.

It almost took the $9.1 billion amount of security assistance that the united states provided to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country on February 24.

Antony Blinkon, the secretary of state, said the united states stand with its allies and partners from more than 50 nations in providing vital security assistance to support Ukraine’s defence of its sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russia’s aggression.

“We will continue consulting closely with Ukraine and surge available systems and capabilities, carefully calibrated to make a difference on the battlefield and strengthen Ukraine’s eventual position at the negotiating table, said Blinken in their statement.”

The world bank announced an aid of $4.5 billion for Ukraine paid by the united states.

The bank said these funds would help Kyiv pay for services and pensions, which were key to easing the economic facts of the Russian invasion.

U.S. treasury Secretory Janet Yellen said in a statement, This economic assistance is critical in supporting the people of Ukraine as they defend their democracy against Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression.

Capabilities in this package include:

  • Arms for high mobility Artillery rocket systems (HIMARS);
  • 75000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition;
  • Munitions for national advance surface-to-air guided missiles(NASAMS);
  • 1000 javelins and hundreds of AT4 anti-armour systems;
  • 50 armoured medical treatment vehicles;
  • Claymore and anti-personnel munitions;
  • C-4 explosives, demolition munitions and demolition equipment;
  • Medical supplies to include first aid kits, bandages, and monitors, among other equipment.
