US Embassy in Moscow asks Americans to leave Russia immediately

United States: The Embassy of the United States in Moscow is asking American citizens to leave Russia immediately, while there is a supply of commercial travel options.

A security alert was issued on Tuesday evening, and the embassy indicated that dual American-Russian nationals could be drafted into the army of Russia or banned from escaping Russia,

It noted, “Russia may refuse to acknowledge dual nationals’ U.S.

Citizenship, deny their access to United States consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia, as well as conscript dual nationals for military service.”

The memo also states that commercial flight options are “extremely limited” and often unavailable at short notice. Along with this, “If you wish to depart Russia, you should make independent arrangements as soon as possible,” read the warning posted online, noting that the embassy itself was limited in its ability to assist U.S. citizens.

Moreover, the embassy in Moscow discouraged United States nationals from going to Russia and encouraged those who reside there or travel to the nation to leave it as soon as possible, while limited options still exist.

The warning further recalled that the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression were not guaranteed in Russia. It added that the United States State Department was advising the United States nationals to avoid protests as well as not to photograph security personnel during demonstrations.

The security alert confirmed that the authorities of Russia had apprehended the people from the United States attending rallies.

Furthermore, several people were detained in Russia in recent days at the time of demonstrations against the mobilisation of reservists to war in war-torn Ukraine, decreed the previous week by President Vladimir Putin.
