US Embassy congratulates govt. of Republic of Malawi for securing Rapid Credit Facility

United States: The U.S. Embassy congratulates the Government of the Republic of Malawi for securing a Rapid Credit Facility and the imminent disbursement of $88 million from the IMF.

The administration of President Chakwera, led by his senior team of Finance Minister Gwengwe, Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Banda, and Secretary to the Treasury Mwale, deserves appreciation for their steadfast commitment to move forward on this path.

Along with this, while significant work remains in order to reach an Extended Credit Facility, this step is an important milestone on the road to economic recovery.

The United States of America is seeking to continue close cooperation and partnership with Malawi going forward.

On the other hand, Ambassador Young joined the Kamuzu Academy Founders’ Day celebrations. In his remarks, he spoke about the history shared between Kamuzu Academy and the United States, as well as reiterated the significance of education as a key to development.

It is through education and exchanges that we become better collaborators, responsible leaders, and compassionate neighbours in this global society.

Also, they celebrated Women’s Entrepreneurship Day by applauding the work of 2022 Mandela Washington Fellow Lucy Msukwa!

She is the founder as well as executive director of a maternity clinic in Mzuzu, which focuses on sexual reproductive health services and the rights of women and adolescents.

In addition, Lucy Msukwa also volunteers with African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative (AWEC) as a recruitment ambassador for Malawi and with the University of Washington Global Health Department as an online program coordinator for Malawi for various professional development courses.
