Carolinas: Weather to remain cloudy, chances of thunderstorm

United States: The former Charlotte Observer writer Steve Lyttle shared the weather forecast on the weather of Carolinas. According to the weather forecaster, there are severe thunderstorm threats.

Forecaster shared the weather report of Carolinas and mentioned in the statement, “Severe thunderstorm threats … temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s … it all sounds more like a Charlotte-area forecast for late February than it does the middle of January. But that is our outlook for the next few days and into the end of this month.”

There was an early-spring forecast in the month of January, and Steve Lyttle said, “Let me digress a moment.” People might want to check out a Charlotte Magazine article, written by Greg Lacour (who used to work with me at the Charlotte Observer), about the disappearance of winter snow in our region.

But back to the weather, these storm systems that are hitting the west Coast have to move east eventually, as well as another of those systems will be reaching the Carolinas area on Thursday. It will bring a threat of bad weather, as well as the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has put Charlotte at a Level 1 risk. The Level 2 risk is not far away, as well as it could be moved or extended as they get closer to the event.

Then, farther down the road, they have the 8-14 day forecast, which shows a strong likelihood of above-average temperatures for the part of the country. This carries into the latter part of January, and there is really very little of the continental United States that is expected to experience below-average temperatures. The end of this week is a good example of how it could all play out. They will get chilly weather on Friday and Saturday, but highs will be back in the 60s by early next week.

TODAY: Morning clouds will give way to sunshine and a very nice early-January day, with a high of 58.

TONIGHT: Clear. Low around 35.

WEDNESDAY: Sunshine, for the most part, and mild. High around 60.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Becoming cloudy. Low of 47.

THURSDAY: Overcast, with off-and-on showers arriving after midday. Thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening. Quite mild, with a high of 64.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms ending after midnight. Then cloudy, with a low of 46.

FRIDAY: A mix of sun and clouds and colder, with a high of 51.

SATURDAY: Sunny and cold. High of 46.

SUNDAY: Sunshine, mixed with some high clouds. Seasonably chilly, with a high of 51.

MONDAY: The MLK Holiday will bring a mix of sun and clouds, with a high of 57.
