Trinidad and Tobago: Police arrest two following murder allegations

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Two men appeared virtually before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor, at the Port of Spain Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 21st July 2023, after they were both charged with Murder.

The two accused were arrested on Thursday, 13th July 2023, after officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One Office conducted extensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of DILLON DE SILVA alias ‘TOTO’, 40, of John Street, Cocorite, which occurred earlier that day.

On Thursday, 20th July 2023, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Joan Honore-Paul, advised that ISAAC PHILLIP, alias ‘MOON’, 26, of Upper Waterhole, Cocorite and RICARDO REGIS, alias ‘PETER CROUCH’, 33, of Harding Place, Waterhole, Cocorite, be charged for the offences of Murder, Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.

According to police reports, De Silva was exiting a residence located at Main Street, Cocorite, when a black Toyota Yaris vehicle stopped in the roadway.

Two men, both armed with firearms, exited the vehicle, pointed them at De Silva and fired several shots, hitting him about his body. De Silva then ran a short distance and collapsed in a nearby grassy area of the said residence. The matter was postponed to Friday, 18th August 2023.

The investigation was supervised by W/Ag ASP Bridglal, Inspectors Lynch and Mongroo, of HBI Region One, with the assistance of officers attached to the Port of Spain Task Force, the Acting Deputy Director alongside Sgt Biggart and a team of the Forensic Science Centre, E999 and Operations Command Centre, the HBI Technical Unit and the Specialist Evidence Recovery Unit (SERU).
