Sunrise Airways Unveils Major Expansion in Eastern Caribbean Air Travel

St. John’s, Antigua – May 4, 2024

In a significant move that promises to reshape intra-regional air travel in the Eastern Caribbean, Sunrise Airways has announced its most extensive route network expansion to date. The airline revealed plans to introduce new flights connecting four key destinations within the region: Antigua, Dominica, St. Kitts, and St. Lucia.

Scheduled to commence operations on May 25, 2024, the new routes will be serviced by Embraer 120 (EMB-120) twin-turboprop aircraft, boasting a maximum seating capacity of 30 passengers. With this expansion, Sunrise Airways aims to bolster connectivity and enhance accessibility across the Eastern Caribbean.

Philippe Bayard, Chairman and CEO of Sunrise Airways, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone for the airline. He emphasized the company’s commitment to its “One Caribbean” concept, aimed at fostering greater integration and connectivity among the region’s islands.

Bayard remarked, “This latest expansion… brings the mission we started in the Western Caribbean to the Eastern Caribbean in the biggest way yet. Fittingly as regards to our name, it’s truly the dawn of a new day for intra-regional air travel within the Eastern Caribbean.”

The new flights will operate six days per week, excluding Tuesdays, providing travelers with enhanced flexibility and convenience. Antigua–Dominica and Antigua–St. Kitts routes will feature two daily flights, while Antigua–St. Lucia’s service will operate once daily.

Highlighting the significance of the Antigua–St. Lucia route, Bayard noted, “This creates exciting new options for multi-destination travel combining the sizzle of Antigua with the Creole savoir-faire of St. Lucia for the first time.”

This expansion marks a continuation of Sunrise Airways’ growth strategy following the introduction of flights to/from Miami in October 2023. The airline currently serves an additional 12 gateways across six Caribbean and Central American destinations, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Panama City, and St. Maarten.

Looking ahead, Sunrise Airways has ambitious plans for further expansion in the Eastern Caribbean in 2024 and beyond, underscoring its commitment to becoming a key player in the region’s aviation landscape.
