US-Japan cheers strong relations, including 2 new defence agreements

The United States and Japan are going to sign a new five-year contract related to splitting the amount of presence of the American defence in Japan as soon as possible. According to the State Secretary, Antony Blinken, US and Japan are looking forward to broadening their defence ties.

As per the sources, they have a virtually held conference in which they had a conversation about the alliance on Thursday. United States Secretary of State said, “there would also be a deal between Tokyo and Washington. There will be a collaboration of the analysis and development of the technologies related to defence, which includes the hypersonic weapons that detect the danger.”

The agreement about sharing the expense of the U.S. military presence in Japan brings an end to a Trump-era dispute that had been a significant source of frictions between US-Japanese ties. As said by Mr Blinken, the new agreement will help both nations spend more on their forces’ readiness and strengthen their capacity to work together.

The Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, has joined the virtual meeting from his home as he was tested positive for the COVID-19 infection, and now he is recovering from his illness. He said the U.S. and Japan cooperation is imperative.

Meanwhile, Austin said, “We’re meeting amid a backdrop of rising tensions and challenges to the free, peaceful, and secure Indo-Pacific region. We are both seeking challenges brought by North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and the People’s Republic of China’s coercive and angry behaviour. The U.S. appreciates Japan for its cooperation and support towards them as the U.S. forces are were in Japan, there was a high level of teamwork along with them.”

Apart from this, According to sources, there is still a concern that China will increase their military for vengeance to show the U.S. and Japan because of the decision. It is considered the first such pact that Japan has sealed with any nation except the U.S.
