Biden announces to extend US national emergency due to COVID risk

In the United States, on February 18, Friday, President Joe Biden has announced to extend the US national emergency because of the COVID-19 health risk.

Since the COVID-19 marked its presence, it has been creating severe issues for the health of the individuals. To avoid this situation, the Biden administration is planning to further extend the national emergency because of the current risk to the health posed by the COVID-19 variant.

President Biden mentioned that the death of over 900,000 Americans due to COVID-19 has focused upon the need to respond to the pandemic with the full capacity of the federal government.

The former President of Donald Trump announced a national emergency around two years ago to release the amount of US$50 billion in federal aid.

On Friday, Biden mentioned in the letter which was issued to the speaker of the House of the Representatives as well as the President of the Senate, “There is a constant need to continue this national emergency.” The White House released the letter.

Along with this, the emergency would have been automatically ended until the President provided notice to Congress 90 days before the time period of the anniversary date of its declaration, announcing that it would be extended further from the date.

Additionally, the governor of New York and Massachusetts has declared in the last week that they would end specific mask mandates in their states, following the same measures by New Jersey, California, Connecticut, Delaware, and Oregon.

Along with this, the health officials of the United States has mentioned at the beginning of this current week they were working for getting ready for the next stage of the pandemic as the individuals getting admitted from the COVID-19 variant has been reduced.
