North Carolina reports new Subvariant BA.2

In North Carolina, on 22 February Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services has made confirmation that the new variant of the COVID-19 in the Laboratories in the state has been observed.

Moreover, the NCDHHS said that its own State Laboratory of Public Health had not yet discovered the BA.2 (Stealth Omicron) omicron subvariant.

As per the data provided by the World Health Organisation, the Stealth Omicron is the sub-variant of the highly transmissible Omicron variant that seems to increase around 30 percent more efficiently than the Omicron infection.

In the report, it has been mentioned there it is not yet identified that it will create a more devastating situation as compared to the previous Omicron variant.

Additionally, the new variant of the COVID-19 Omicron has taken the place of the previous variant in South Africa and other nations.

The stealth omicron variant (BA.2) has been in a minimum amount in the United States.

Along with this, the Office of Communications of NCDHHS mentioned in an email, “BA.2 represents a very small proportion of sequenced viruses in the United States at this time.”

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention mentioned that the BA.2 had been reported as 3.8 percent in the overall United States.

According to the data tracker of the COVID-19 CDC, the stealth Omicron till 19 February has been noticed as 1.9 percent of the Omicron Cases in the Southeast region of the U.S., including North Carolina.
