Sub-variant BA.2 surges in US amid decline in Omicron cases, experts shows concern

As the United States is continuously facing a downtrend in Omicron cases, health experts are worried about the current situation as there is still a threat of more dangerous infection variants, which can again bring the same position for all nations.

Moreover, the BA.2 is one of the strains of the Omicron variant, which is the highly transmissible variant, and it can grow even faster than others as it is 30 per cent easier.

The subvariant has overtaken the place of the Omicron variant in South Africa as well as in other nations. In Denmark, the second variant of the Omicron variant is increasing at a rapid speed, and the experts have mentioned the same situation for the residents of the United States.

The associate professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health named Nathan Grubaugh mentioned, ” A lot of us were assuming that it was going to quickly take off in the United States just like it was doing in Europe and become the new dominant variant.”

Additionally, the cousin variant of the Omicron variant is increasing at a slow pace as the rise of the omicron infection is fading away.

Along with this, the subvariant has been reported as 3.9 percent nationwide. As per the figures provided by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it seems that it is increasing at a more doubled speed than before.

The manager director of pathogen surveillance at the Rockefeller Foundation, Samuel Scarpino, mentioned, “If it doubles again to 8%, that means we’re into the exponential growth phase, and we may be staring at another wave of COVID-19 coming in the U.S.”

Furthermore, he said, “And that’s, of course, the one we’re really worried about. We are all at the edge of our seats.”
