Two Sikh men assaulted in hate crime incident in Richmond hills

In New York, USA, two Sikh men were assaulted in an alleged hate crime incident in the Richmond Hills area on Tuesday, March 12. India’s Consulate General in New York City has charged the assault, terming it “deplorable,” as well as mentioned that they were in touch with the police officials who are working on the case.

According to the sources, one person has been arrested in connection with the crime.

The attack on both the men, at that time, they were on their morning walk, and this happening took place in the same place where the attack took place ten days before.

As per the reports, two of the suspects hit the men with a pole as well as has been removed their turbans.

The New York Attorney General named Letitia James has condemned the attack, and he mentioned on Twitter, “Another hateful incident against Sikh community in Richmond Hill. Both who were responsible must be brought to justice. Anyone with details about this should immediately contact @NYPDnews.”

Moreover, the NY State Assemblywoman named Jenifer Rajkumar, who is the first Punjabi American that has been elected to the New York State Office, mentioned that there had been a Worrying or disturbing 200 percent increase in hate crimes against the Sikh community in recent years.

Ms Rajkumar mentioned in the statement about the alarming happening, “I spoke to the NYPD soon after both of this week’s incidents against my Sikh American family. I am calling for both incidents to be investigated as hate crimes & that the perpetrators be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Furthermore, the former Director of Immigration for NY State, Ms Rajkumar, highlighted, “We will educate all on Sikh culture so that everyone knows as I do the generosity and kindness embedded in the Sikh American community.”
