Virginia teacher sues student as he left banana in doorway of classroom

In Virginia, a black high school history teacher is suing a white tenth-grade student after he was caught leaving a banana in the doorway of his classroom for months.

A veteran history teacher who has worked at Menchville High School for about 21 years named Joel Mungo mentioned in the statement in October 2021 that he had noticed a banana that had been placed in his classroom doorway.

Mungo shared the information during an interview “Someone left a banana at my door. The banana was perfectly placed in the doorway.”

Moreover, the incident could have been written off as a coincidence, but then he asserted it became a reoccurring incident, including with the banana placed in the same spot at least once a month.

Mungo said, “It was clearly a deliberate act.”

The man named Mungo is one of the few black teachers at the predominately white Virginia high school.

Along with this, Bananas have been used as a weapon by the racist toward the black individuals that is meant to compare them to monkeys who are known to eat the fruit.

Meanwhile, the teacher had a word with the school administrators, who shared the footage in which the white student had the fruit in his hand and was walking down the hallway.

After he got to know the person behind that incident, he said that he gave the student an opportunity to fess up, but he denied that he had done any kind of wrongdoing.

He declared, ‘I gave the student a chance to come clean. I asked him, ”Hey did you do this?” he replied, “No, ‘he played dumb’, No idea what you’re talking about.” So I told, OK, go down to the assistant principal.” I’m the only Black teacher he has. He has six other teachers. No other teachers were involved,” Mungo shared mentioned during the interview.
