Alaska: Bear attack kills one and left another injured

In Alaska, a soldier died on Tuesday after a bear attacked him along with his entire team. The officials mentioned that the female bear might have been trying to protect her cubs.

As per the sources, the bear was wildlife. After the animal injured him, Staff Sgt Seth Michael Plant was taken to the Army based health care centre, where he was announced dead on arrival, says the Army Alaska in a report.

Moreover, another soldier was injured at the time of the attack. In the release note, he was treated for minor wounds and later, he was discharged.

The Plant was an infantryman from the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. According to the reports, he was working in a training area at Joint Base Elmendorf- Richardson (JBER) when the attack took place.

Lt. Col. David J. Nelson, commander of the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, mentioned in the statement, “Staff Sgt. The Plant was an important part of our organization. He was a positive & dedicated leader who brought joy and energy to the paratroopers who served with him.”

Along with this, the 30-year-old Plant was the recipient of several awards as well as decorations, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal as well as Army Commendation Medal.

Nelson stated, “He always had a smiling face, he always went above & beyond what was asked of him, as well as he was an inspiration to all who had the privilege to know him. “His loss is extremely felt within our organization & we offer our sincere condolences to friends as well as family.”

Furthermore, prior to joining the active-duty Army in January 2015, Plant, who is from Saint Augustine, Florida, served in the reserves and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, according to the release. He arrived at JBER in July 2021.
