Chicago: COVID-19 cases are on rise in Cook County, number of deaths reduces

United States: In Chicago, COVID cases are on the rise and in Cook County, but health care centres and deaths have been reduced.

Vaccines continue to be effective and younger children are just one step away from a booster. The FDA gave the OK for Pfizer’s booster shots for young children of aged between 5 to 11.

Moreover, the Center for Disease Control is expected to give the green light Thursday.

Omicron and its highly infectious sub-variants continue to infect individuals. Chicago is now in a medium risk category, but it is likely an undercount of cases owing to at-home testing, but hospitalizations and deaths remain low, with just one or two deaths each week.

Vaccines, according to health experts, are to blame for the low numbers.

Due to growing Covid numbers, Evanston Township High School reintroduced its indoor mask rule earlier this week, but it doesn’t appear like Chicago is following suit. According to health experts, now is the time to start thinking about having your mask available and separating yourself from others in an indoor situation.

Along with this, Dr Allison Arwardy, Chicago Public Health Commissioner, mentioned in the statement, “At the medium level masks are strongly recommended indoors and if Cook County move high level which I think they might in the next few weeks if that were to happen we would only do a mask requirement if our hospital numbers in Chicago is threatening.”

Furthermore, for people admitted to the hospitals, rates would have to treble from where they are currently, according to Arwardy.
