Over 100 NJ students developed rare cancer; belongs to same school: Officials

United States: Over 100 students have developed rare brain cancer, they all went to the same high school, and there is no relationship found between those illnesses, according to the officials.

In the previous month, Al Lupiano stated that he was diagnosed when he was 27-year-old in the early 1990s and in 2021, both his sister and wife were diagnosed with brain cancer. All three went to Colonia High School in Woodbridge, in New Jersey.
According to the sources, more than 100 students have been recorded who went to that high school and have been diagnosed with rare brain cancer.

Moreover, Woodbridge Township Mayor John McCormac mentioned in the statement that an independent investigation had been found no contamination at the school.

McCormack highlighted in the last week, “We are very happy to announce that our extensive testing for both randon and radiation in the interior and exterior of the school building produced no evidence of any cancer-causing hazards that warrant further investigation.”

“This is one of the terrific news for the students of Colonial High School as well as their parents who are tensed about their safety along with staff members. Alongside, it is also great news for all former students who attended and staff that worked at Colonia High School since it opened back in 1968.”

Along with this, T+M Associates, an environmental engineering firm, was requested to investigate a connection between the school and brain cancer in the previous month.

In addition, McCormac highlighted that the investigation found “no cause and effect relationship between those illnesses and the building or grounds at Colonia High School.”

Meanwhile, an epidemiologist from the New Jersey Department of Health, Kate McGreevy, mentioned in the statement that the school’s brain cancer rates are consistent with brain cancer rates in the state and nation.

Furthermore, McGreevy outlined, “The rates are actually consistent in New Jersey with the United States. This approach of calculating the expected number was done to provide context to the community.”
