School District of Philadelphia announces to return to mask mandate amid surge in COVID

United States: The Schools District of Philadelphia has made the announcement it is returning to mask mandate for all students and staff within the district, citing an upsurge in COVID-19 cases all over the city.

The students and staff will now be needed to follow the district’s mask policy, which began on Monday, May 23, as per a district-wide announcement.

Moreover, the announcement mentioned that the students and staff are needed to wear a face mask at the time of school and during the workday, as well as while on school buses and vans.

The District officials made the decision to resume the mask mandate after a recommendation from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.

On the announcement of May 20, there was mentioned, “To help protect everyone’s health and well-being as COVID-19 case counts continue to rise in the Philadelphia area, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) has recommended that we resume universal mask-wearing. ”

Further in the statement, it has been mentioned, “Therefore, starting this Monday, May 23, 2022, and until further notice, all School District students and staff will be required to wear their masks during the school and work day and while riding on school buses and vans.”

In the announcement, the district superintendent mentioned that it is the pandemic response that continues to evolve.

William Hite stated, “As we’ve learned since the pandemic began, the coronavirus continues to evolve, and so too will our response to it. ”

Furthermore, according to the sources, Philadelphia County has experienced a 42% increase in COVID-19 cases compared to the average two weeks ago.
