Emmanuel Lewis’s masterful 204 propels Georgetown to dominant Victory in DCB U-15 tournament

Georgetown, Guyana: In a dazzling display of youthful cricketing prowess, 14-year-old Emmanuel Lewis stole the spotlight on Monday with a breathtaking innings of 204 runs against Upper Demerara/Select XI in the Demerara Cricket Board Inter-Association Under-15 tournament at Queen’s College ground.

Lewis, representing the Transport Sports Club, showcased maturity beyond his years as he faced 103 balls, striking an astounding 16 fours and 17 sixes.

His masterful performance played a pivotal role in helping Georgetown post an imposing total of 406-6 from their allotted 50 overs. Lewis’s innings were a blend of precision, power, and remarkable shot selection, leaving spectators in awe of the young talent’s cricketing acumen.

The 14-year-old dynamo shared a formidable 200-run partnership for the third wicket with Shamar Apple, who contributed a well-played 69 (6x4s; 3x6s) from 62 balls.

Lewis also steered significant partnerships, adding 71 for the fourth wicket with Khush Seegobin (19) and 52 for the second wicket with Shane Shivbarran (23).

The Georgetown batting lineup exhibited strength and depth, dominating the opposition bowlers throughout the innings.

Georgetown’s innings, however, were not without its moments for Upper Demerara bowlers Anek Haimnarine (2-63 from 10 overs) and Sameer Bhola (2-69 from 10 overs).

Despite their efforts, 43 runs were conceded in extras, contributing to the imposing total set by the Georgetown team.

Upper Demerara faced a challenging task in response, and their relatively slow start paved the way for a daunting target. Jamaine Grovesnor and Shahid Ramzan weathered the early storm, reaching 31 without loss in 8.5 overs.

However, Darwin LaRose’s impressive bowling proved pivotal as he dismissed Grovesnor for 16 (3x4s), triggering a steady fall of wickets.

Ramzan displayed determination with a patient innings of 10 from 48 balls, but the wickets continued to tumble.

Makai Dowlin (16) and Joshua Bollers (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures, with extras contributing 27 to the total.

Georgetown’s bowling attack, led by Danvir Seegobin (3-12 from six overs) and Khush Seegobin (2-9 from 1.3 overs), sealed the deal, bowling out Upper Demerara for a mere 98 runs in 32.3 overs.

The title favourites secured a massive 298-run victory, demonstrating their dominance in the tournament.

This triumph marks Georgetown’s second consecutive win in the competition, solidifying their position as strong contenders.

On the other hand, it was a challenging start for Upper Demerara, who will be eager to bounce back in the upcoming matches.

The Demerara Cricket Board Inter-Association Under-15 tournament continues on Thursday, with East Bank set to face Georgetown at Farm ground and Upper Demerara/Select XI taking on East Coast Demerara at Lusignan.

Both matches are scheduled to commence at 09:00h, promising another day of exciting youth cricket action.
