Cricket West Indies announces central contracts for 2023-2024 Season, welcomes emerging women’s talents

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled the eagerly awaited list of centrally contracted players for the upcoming 2023-2024 season, encompassing both the men’s and women’s teams.

The selection criteria were based on player performances during the 2022-2023 evaluation period, with recommendations from the Selection Panels receiving approval from the CWI Board of Directors.

In a historic move, the central contracts for the women’s team feature two new names, marking a significant step forward in recognizing emerging talents.

Saint Lucia’s dynamic all-rounder, Zaida James, and the promising Sheneta Grimmond have earned central contracts for the first time, reinforcing CWI’s commitment to nurturing and rewarding talent.

Zaida James, a standout performer, showcased her cricketing prowess during the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup held in South Africa from January 14 to 29 earlier this year.

Her skills and dedication did not go unnoticed as she continued to make strides in the international arena. In June, James donned the West Indies colors in a match against Ireland Women at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, leaving an indelible mark with her performances.

The young all-rounder’s journey continued as she earned a coveted spot in the senior West Indies team that toured Australia in October.

This invaluable experience at the international level further solidified her position as a rising star in West Indies women’s cricket. Not content with just one major assignment, Zaida James extended her cricketing endeavors by joining the West Indies A Team for the Pakistan tour from October 17 to November 8.

The inclusion of Zaida James and Sheneta Grimmond in the centrally contracted players’ list underscores CWI’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing talent at all levels of the game.

The announcement serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers, particularly young women, who can look up to these emerging stars as role models in the world of West Indies cricket.

As the cricketing fraternity eagerly anticipates the upcoming season, the presence of these fresh faces brings an element of excitement and anticipation.

The central contracts not only reward the players for their hard work and dedication but also set the stage for a new era in West Indies cricket, where emerging talents play a pivotal role in shaping the future success of the teams.
