US: Vice Prez Harris calls for ban on “assault weapons”

United States: The USA’s vice president, Kamala Harris, made a call for a ban on “assault weapons” on Saturday. The following call was made after Harris was sharing words at the funeral of a woman that was killed in the Buffalo, New York grocery store mass shooting at the beginning of this month.

She said that a firearm is a weapon of war, which has almost no place in civil society.

The Vice President shared the information, referring to the series of mass shootings that have plagued the United States, “We are not sitting around waiting to figure out what the solution looks like. You know, we’re not looking for a vaccine. We know what works on this. Let’s have an assault weapons ban.”

Kamala Harris has made a statement at the funeral of Ruth Whitfield, 86-year-old, that one of the ten black individuals had been killed at a Tops supermarket on May 14 by a self-proclaimed White supremacist. Moreover, at Whitfield’s service, Harris highlighted the U.S. is experiencing an “epidemic of hate.”

Harris mentioned at the funeral that Scripture teaches about strength, as well as that strength is based on who “you lift up” rather than “who you beat down.”

She stated, “And it means then also, in that strength, understanding we will not allow small people to create fear in our communities that we will not be afraid to stand up for what is right, to speak up even when it may be difficult to hear and speak.”

Along with this, she continued her statement with, “Enough is Enough.”

Although “Assault weapons” is a very high form of a term, Harris mentioned firearms like AR-15-style rifles used during both the Buffalo massacre as well as Uvalde, Texas shooting incident in school, which left 19 children and two teachers dead.
