North Carolina: Boat of man missing for seven months found ashore in Azores Islands

United States: The boat of a North Carolina man missing for seven months has washed ashore in the Azores Islands, according to the officials.

On Monday, the Carolina Beach police mentioned in the press release that Joseph Matthew Johnson had not been found. The 44-year-old from Carolina Beach was last seen leaving Federal Point Yacht Club marina in November on his boat, as per the police.

He has previously arranged a fishing trip, according to the police mentioned.

Moreover, video surveillance from the marina where he lived on November 22 shows the boa leaving, as well as the last ping from Johnson’s Phone was from off the coast of Bald Head Island at 5:17 p.m. on the similar day, Sgt. Colby Edens stated by telephone on Monday. ‘

The United States Coast Guard’s search for Johnson in the month of November covered nearly 7,500 square miles, but it was suspended when no new information was found, as per the sources.

The previous week, the authorities in So Jorge Island, a small Azore island, contacted Carolina Beach police. They found a 2006 Clearwater fishing boat that washed ashore was registered to Johnson, a police official mentioned. The island, part of a mid-Atlantic archipelago around 800 miles west of Portugal, is over 2,700 miles from Carolina Beach.

Along with this, when the boat was found on June 21, it had a heavy buildup of barnacles and algae, indicating that it had been capsized at sea for quite some time, Edens stated.

Portuguese authorities are working on to help the Carolina Beach police department as they gather evidence as well as continue their search for Johnson.

The mother of Johnson, Mary Kay Anderson, highlighted that his family is confident he will be found alive, as per the reports.

The retired U.S. Army Special Forces soldier served for 24 years with tours in Afghanistan as well as South America, so Anderson stated that she believes he has the skills to survive in dangerous conditions as well as elements.

“It’s not just hope,” Anderson expressed. “We know he’s alive and is praying for his miraculous rescue.”
