Philadelphia: Two police officer shot near Benjamin Franklin Parkway

United States: Two Philadelphia police officers were shot near the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Monday as thousands of people celebrated a Fourth of July concert and fireworks show when the incident took place.

The shooting occurred just after a gunman on a rooftop started to fire on the families waving flags and children riding bikes at a fourth of July parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, where six people were killed as well as over 36 were wounded.

Both officers in Philadelphia were released from hospital after suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, the Major of the state highlighted.
The police are working on the case and looking for the shooter.

There was a video in which hundreds of people were running from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway after shots were fired.

The mayor mentioned in the statement his administration was “Pleading with lawmakers” to stop the “Flow of guns into our city.”

He added in the statement, “Our traditions cannot and will not be ruined by the scourge of gun violence.”

On the festival’s final day, while many people were viewing fireworks following a performance, a shooting erupted late on Monday outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Emergency personnel reported that there was a “security problem on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway” in reference to the shooting.

People in nearby buildings were told to take cover by police.

One woman said, “I didn’t hear the gunfire, but the officers were screaming, ‘Run, run, run.'”

According to accounts, one cop was wounded in the right shoulder, and one received a grazing wound to the head.
