Texas inmate on death row request stay of execution so he can donate a kidney

United States: A inmate from Texas on death row has requested a stay of execution so that he can donate a kidney.

The 39-year-old Ramiro Gonzales is scheduled to be put to death via lethal injection on the month of July 13 for the murder of a Texas teenager in 2001.

The lawyers made a request to the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott on Wednesday to hold up the execution by a month so Gonzales can be considered a living donor to the person who is in urgent need of a kidney transplant.

They also put a question to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for a sixth-month reprieve in link with the requested kidney donation.

Along with this, the attorneys Thea Posel and Raoul Schonem mentioned in the statement that a University of Texas transplant team discovered Gonzales to be an “excellent candidate” for donation because of its rare blood type.

Posel and Schonemann highlighted to Abbott that Virtually all that remains is the surgery to remove their kidney of Ramiro. Meanwhile, UTMB has made the confirmation that the procedure could be completed within a month.

They also involved a letter from Cantor Michael Zoosman, a Jewish clergyman who has been in link with the same inmate.

“There has been no uncertainty in my mind that Ramiro’s desire to be an altruistic kidney donor is not inspired by a last-minute attempt to stop his execution. I will go to my grave feeling in my heart that this is something that Ramiro wants to do to support make his soul right with his God,” Zoosman mentioned in the statement.

In addition, Texas permits inmates to donate organs. A request from Gonzales was turned down earlier this year. A Department of Criminal Justice representative did not give an explanation for the resolution, but the killer’s lawyers claimed it was due to his execution was imminent.
