Two plans crashes in North California, while trying to land at local airtport

United States: Two planes have been crashed in Northern California while trying to land at a local airport on Thursday, and at least two of the three occupants were killed, according to the officials.

The planes collided at Watsonville Municipal Airport shortly before 3 p.m., as per the tweet shared by the city of Watsonville.

In addition, the city-owned airport does not have a control tower to direct aircraft landing as well as taking off.

Moreover, there were two individuals abroad, a twin-engine Cessna 340, and only the pilot abroad, a single-engine Cessna 152, during the incident took place, as per the Federal Aviation Administration. The officials stated multiple fatalities were reported, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone survived or not.

The pilots were on their last approaches to the airport before the incident took place, the FAA mentioned in the statement. The FAA, as well as the National Transportation Safety Board, which did not immediately have additional details, are investigating the incident that took place.

Along with this, no one was injured on the ground. The airport has four runways as well as is home to over 300 aircraft, as per the website. It handles over 55,000 operations a year as well as is often used for recreational planes as well as agriculture businesses.

Watsonville, near Monterey Bay, is around 100 miles (160 kilometres) south of San Francisco.

Along with this, the photos as well as videos posted on social media showed the wreckage of one small plane in a grassy field by the airport. One picture showed a plume of smoke visible from a street nearby the airport.

A photo from the city of Watsonville showed damage to a small building at the airport with the firefighters near the airport.

The planes were about 200 feet (61 meters) in the air when they crashed. A witness shared the information with the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
