United States: Monkeypox continue to rise, vaccine availability stands still

United States: About 70 percent of the monkeypox cases have been reported in North Carolina as the virus cases are increasing rapidly. Only 24 percent of the vaccines are currently available, meaning the cases are more than the solution.

It has been less than two months since the cases of the monkeypox virus has been appeared in the United States. As per the information, most of the cases of monkeypox are recorded among black men who have physical contact with men, in spite of the fact that white men tend to test more, suggesting an even higher percentage of cases could be identified in Black patients, but the vaccines are received more to men who are white.

The state has analysed information for 111 cases of monkeypox, about 3,000 vaccines, as well as 162 tests. Out of the cases, 71 (or about 70 percent) were black men, as well as 21 (19 percent) among white men. But while patients also received more tests, and many more vaccines, out of 3,048 administered in the state, 2,039 went to white men.

Along with this, out of the 466 cases for which the state had racial data, 382 (or 82 percent) were among black patients. About 41 percent of the cases occurred among the white population (though it represents 62 percent of the population), white Black and Latinx patients, who are about a third of the population, made up more than half the cases. The CDC has not provided a racial breakdown of vaccinations but noted that the number of infections among black men is increasing.

In addition, this pattern is similar to other outbreaks, notably COVID. Although 23 percent of the deaths for COVID, and 20 percent of the cases, occurred among black Americans (who are only 13 percent of the population), they remained the group with the lowest vaccination levels, at 59 percent.
