On Wednesday, the rescuers were called about 12:30 p.m. to Tahquitz Rock near Idyllwild following a distress call, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department mentioned on its Twitter account.

Moreover, a team manager to climb into the steep, remote area as well as was found both unidentified climbers dead at the scene, according to the department.

The 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh and Gavin Escobar, 31, were identified on Thursday.

Along with this, a small amount of rain fell in the area earlier in the day, but officials did not immediately tell if the weather was a factor in the casualties.

Escobar was a Long Beach firefighter who was hired in the month of February, as per the department.

Previously, Escobar had been a tight end, playing for the Dallas Cowboys in a backup role from 2013 to 2016.

He then had brief stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, as well as Miami Dolphins, ending his football career in 2019 with the now-defunct Alliance of American Football.

With its steep granite cliffs, Tahquitz Rock is a popular destination for climbers.
