Indians in Fremont, USA, protest against BBC documentary

The Indian community protested on Saturday at Fremont, in the San Francisco Bay area of California, against the BBC documentary series “India: The Modi Question.” Under the banner “Indian Diaspora,” about 50 people chanted slogans and marched through the streets of Fremont, a neighbourhood in the San Francisco area of the United States. They said they reject the BBC’s “sinister and biased documentary.” People were shouting things like “biased BBC” and “racist BBC” while marching in Fremont.

Protesters in Fremont protested against the BBC with signs reading “BBC is fake news,” “BBC is biased against PM Modi,” “BBC spreads fake propaganda,” and “BBC is bogus.” BBC, the main TV station in the UK, showed a two-part series that was critical of PM Narendra Modi’s time as Gujarat’s Chief Minister during the Gujarat riots of 2002. Famous British people who were born in India were against the show. Lord Rami Ranger, a well-known UK citizen, said that the BBC has hurt over a billion Indians a lot.

On January 19, India spoke out against the controversial BBC documentary series about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it “propaganda” that is meant to spread a false story. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, said that this documentary show, which is based on an internal UK report, shows the colonial way of thinking. The documentary made people angry, so it was taken down from some platforms.

The spokesperson for the MEA said that the documentary shows that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and other people are still spreading this story. “What was the point of the exercise, and what was the real plan?” he inquired. “The documentary looks at the organisation and people who are spreading this story again. It makes us wonder what the point of the exercise is and what the plan is. “To be honest, we don’t want to give these efforts any respect,” he added.
