Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit to attend 44th CARICOM Heads of government meeting

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, reached Nassau, Bahamas to attend the 44th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government which will take place from February 15, Wednesday to February 17, 2023, Friday.

The Prime Minister will advance shared interests at CARICOM, which brings together the heads of 20 Caribbean states. The leaders will have the chance to think about additional regional political, security, and humanitarian assistance during their visit.

On the evening of February 15, the ceremonial opening ceremony is set to take place at Atlantis Bahamas. The thirteenth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women, honouring women of excellence in the Caribbean Community, will be presented during the ceremony.

The Grand Hyatt in Baha Mar will host a closed-door plenary meeting of heads of state on February 16 and 17. Under the Chairmanship of the Philip Davis, who is the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the meeting will be held.

The prime concerns of the summit incorporate Climate Change and Climate Finance, Agriculture and Food Security, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), as well as health.

The Council for National Security and Law Enforcement, the Special CARICOM Ministerial Task Force on Agriculture, and CARICOM IMPACS will provide briefings to the heads of government so that respective issues can be well speculated.

Additionally, the effects of the recent COP27 Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on the region will also be discussed. The necessity for member states to increase their investments in energy security will also be pondered upon by the members of the conference.

Besides this, The Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee (PMSC) will provide a status report on CSME developments.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy, Dr Vince Henderson, will also be present in the meeting along with Roosevelt Skerrit. Dr Irving McIntyre, Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security, will be a part of the meeting as Prime Minister.
