Kalinago’s Adicia Burton bags “Miss Dominica 2023”

Kalinago girl Adicia Burton won the ‘Miss Dominica 2023’ title in the 2023 Miss Dominica Carnival Queen Pageant organised at Carnival City on February 16, 2023. She also created awareness regarding the “Reparation for the Caribbean with a focus on the Indigenous People of Dominica”.

While supporting Adicia Burton on her Facebook, Melissa Popone updated, “Tonight is going to be fabulous, We are in full cheerleading and support mode for our gorgeous Queen contestant Adicia Burton! A Kalinago daughter of our soil and Roseau Central representative for the Kalingo Queen show, now competing to be Dominica’s Queen. Come out to support with your friends and family !! Adicia, we are with you! We are ready to beat the victory drums.”

This beauty pageant is the most prestigious beauty contest in Dominica. The stage here provides the Dominican women to raise some particular issues which positively impact the society. This year’s winner was also decided to represent Dominica at the Miss World Beauty Pageant.

Different issues were raised by the contestants:

Meeya Francis – “Mental Health in Men”
Moesha Thomas – “Empowering Women Through Sports”
Adicia Burton – “Reparation for the Caribbean with a focus on the Indigenous People of Dominica.”
Tarnia Eugene – “Mental Health”
Sandrin Elizee – “Protecting the Innocent to Encourage Gender Equality”

Adicia Burton during her launch ceremony from every hamlet of Kalinago territory. She asked her community to extend their support in her favour. Due to the result, she won the beauty pageant of 2023.

-Adicia Burton is the winner of the title.
-Sandrin Elizee stood First Runner-up.
-Tarnia Eugene was 2nd Runner-Up.
-Adicia Burton was also given the award for giving the Best Response.
-Best in the Evening wear category Tarnia Eugene was announced for the award.
-Meeya Francis was chosen for Best Evening wear.
-Tarnia Eugene was also chosen for two other titles:-Best Swimwear and Best in Swimwear.
-For the Performing Talent: category Adicia Burton was awarded
