4.0 magnitude Earthquake shooks Dominican Rebublic, no damage observed

Dominican Republic: A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck 34 km (21 mi) SSE of Boca de Yuma, Dominican Republic, yesterday at 07:01 PM. The quake originated below a depth of 206 kilometres in North Atlantic Ocean, Dominican Republic.

The seismograph built by Raspberry Shake, which tracks Earth’s movements all across the world, provides the data. It claims that at 7:01 PM yesterday, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Dominican Republic. This earthquake’s epicentre was in the North Atlantic Ocean in the Dominican Republic (20.644°N / 71.878°W).

Due to the earthquake’s low magnitude and origin, 206 kilometres beneath the ocean’s surface, there was no shaking or significant repercussions during its occurrence, and no property damage was reported on the island.

The weather was quite average during the occurrence. Clear Sky with 25°C (77 F), humidity: 74%, wind: 9 m/s (18 kts). The Raspberry Shake also claimed that 2.8 x 109 joules (783 kilowatt hours, equivalent to 0.674 tons of TNT) of seismic energy was released during the earthquake.

Due to its geographic position, the Dominican Republic is very vulnerable to natural disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, and tropical storms, which have posed significant obstacles to its resilient development and capacity for sustainable growth.

Residents of the Dominican Republic and those living on nearby islands must take precautions and Earthquake safety measures in order to lessen the effects of an earthquake in the future.

The Dominican Republic last had an earthquake just ten days ago (Sunday, March 26, 2023, 1:17 AM). On the Richter scale, this earthquake had a magnitude of 4.16.

The most potent earthquake near the Dominican Republic had a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale. This earthquake was observed on May 31, 1953, at 9:58 PM.
