Dominica: Royer’s Third Goal in Consecutive Games Secures Draw for Dublanc FC

On the evening of April 29th, 2023, CCCUL Dublanc FC hosted Blue Waters Bath Estate FC in a crucial match at the Dublanc playing field. Despite the scheduled 7:00 p.m. kickoff time, the match began at 8:21 p.m. Both teams were playing their game in hand to be level on the number of games played with the other teams.

Dublanc started the game in second place with a win in their previous match and two points ahead of Bath Estate, who are in third place and lost their previous game. The match referee was Matthew Walsh, and the only change to the starting lineup was Myrric Shillingford coming in for the injured Jervanie Xavier. Anfernee Frederick was not in the lineup for Bath Estate due to injury.

The game began with Bath Estate dominating the first 10 minutes of play with their offensive tactics. In the 12th minute, Dublanc’s Travist ‘Snake’ Joseph had a one-on-one chance with the Bath Estate keeper, but his attempt was denied.

The game was in the balance from there until Dublanc’s Captain, Briel Thomas, found McCorney Royer with a long ball from deep in their half. Royer outpaced and overpowered two Bath Estate defenders in a foot race from the half line and skillfully beat the keeper with a finessed shot to give Dublanc the lead in the 38th minute. Dublanc ended the first half in the lead.

In the second half, Bath Estate came back strong and got the equalizer in the 57th minute after some questionable defending from the Dublanc team. Dublanc had the next best chance of the match when Snake put one on the plate for substitute striker Shikel St. Marie who couldn’t convert the chance. The game remained in the balance, and it ended in a draw. Briel Thomas was the player of the match.

Dublanc’s ball control and passing left room for improvement as they gave the ball away on too many occasions with what can be deemed as simple errors. There was also a lack of focus on the defensive end, and conceding goals is becoming a norm for them.
