Dominica: Michigan blogger shares her experience at Nature Island of Caribbean

From Michigan in love, a blogger in Dominica has shared her experience of her recent visit to Dominica. She stated that Dominica has to be Dominica if there’s one hidden gem (populated) island in the Caribbean. Dominica – or “nature island”. It is lush, green and magically beautiful.

She noted that the port in Roseau had only one dock. And there are precisely zero international airports on the island. So the tourists that visit come in via ferry from Antigua & Barbuda or Martinique – therefore only a little busy with tourists.

Sharing her opinion while exploring the islands of Dominica, a Michigan blogger highlighted that for anyone who likes hiking, there’s a trail that runs from the north to the south of the island that takes about a week to complete.

She recommended carrying Mosquito repellent cream for whoever plans to hike from the north to south of the island because there are mosquitoes. Still, there aren’t any poisonous plants or animals to worry about if walking through the island.

This island is also highly fertile & grows a fantastic variety of tropical fruits & spices like mango, banana, grapefruit, limes, cinnamon, avocado, breadfruit & more! Many people here live relatively sustainably off their land, growing what they can since imported food from the supermarkets is highly costly (minimum wage is $4.25/hr, and an apple is $5!).

The Michigan blogger mentioned that the other plants on the island are all medicinal. The people of Dominica don’t use a lot of pills and pharmaceuticals. Instead, they find the cures to their ailments right in nature.

She informed that during her excursion in Dominica, the Michigan blogger, her husband, and her child swam in the Emerald Pool in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The water of Dominica was colder than Lake Michigan Before heading to Trafalgar Falls, where the Mama (75 feet) & daddy Falls (125 feet) are located. She went there with her family and took some pictures pic between the two waterfalls for a family waterfall picture. She also posted those pictures on her official Facebook account.

The excursion then took them to a restaurant to try some rum punch, then a botanical garden to see a bus eaten by a hurricane from the 70s before a final stop atop a scenic overlook of Roseau.

The Michigan blogger suggested that if an individual is looking for a scenic, hidden gem Caribbean vacation, “plan a trip to Dominica”.
