ALBA Games: Venezuela defeats Dominica Volleyball team 25-11, 25-6, and 25-9

Another Tough day for the Dominica Girls Volleyball team at the ALBA Games in Venezuela on Sunday as Dominica suffered its second defeat in as many matches going down to the Venezuela “B” Team.

The Nature Isle girls started slowly in the first set and trailed 6-1 before they rallied back. The support from the Dominican Athletes in the stands helped the girls go on a run, and they brought the scores to 8-5.

But the Venezuelans used their height advantage and went on to win the set 25-11. The Venezuelans continued to use their height and athletic advantage in the second set, and despite a spirited effort, the Nature Girls were overpowered, losing the set 25-6.

Needing to win the 3rd set to keep the match alive, the Nature Isle girls again gave it their all, but the class gap was too much, and Dominica lost the set 25-9.

In the end, Dominica loses to 3-nil. The final score was 25-11, 25-6, and 25-9.

Speaking about football, Dominica faced another loss against Venezuela during the match played yesterday. Dominica’s Girl’s Football Team lost against Venezuela in their opening match at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela and ended up 13-0.

It was a dominating victory for Venezuela in both Football and Volleyball. The Nature Isle Girls were no match for the more experienced and elite Venezuela squad.

Injuries to key players during the match didn’t help Dominica’s cause, as they suffered a heavy defeat. The Dominican coaches mentioned that it was the first time the players from Nature isle island participated in the first time in ALBA games, and it was their maiden experience playing in a foreign land.

According to Dominican coaches, the athletes from nature island will take some time to come up with a strong comeback. Still, they are training hard to compete with experienced Venezuelan athletes.

The ALBA games in Venezuela are ongoing from April 21, 2023, and will continue till April 29, 2023. Over 100 Dominican sports personnel have participated in these games in ten different sporting formats like Basketball, Football (Women), volleyball (Beach and Indoor), Table Tennis, cycling, boxing, dominoes, chess and billiards.
