On April 9, 2023, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Roseau Children s Playground, which was donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Prime Minister Skerrit, his wife, and Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, Lin Xianjiang, attended the opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, the Chinese ambassador to Dominica stated that when he visited the island nation last year, the PM’s wife, Melissa Skerrit, proposed building a children’s park in Roseau, Dominica.
On April 9, 2023, the inauguration of this park took place, and it was named Peebles Park. The Chinese ambassador to Dominica ensures that all products, such as rides and other fun materials for children, are made with high-quality materials, prioritising children’s safety.
It was a gift for the Dominican children. Xianjiang remarked that he was very excited when the plan was presented and thought it might be one of the best gifts they could offer the children.
So today (on April 9), the beautiful children’s playground paradise is completed, and we happily hand it over to the children of Dominica”, said Xianjiang, the Chinese ambassador to Dominica.
He emphasised that to ensure the safety of the children, the Chinese manufacturers also paid special attention to its durability to upstand any weather conditions such as cold weather, sunlight and especially rain.

Children were seen enjoying the new rides alongside their parents and enjoying the easter celebration. On Sunday, April 9, Easter was also celebrated alongside the inauguration of Pebbles Park.
Easter bunnies, Hula hoops and Easter-related programmes were also organised during the inauguration. It was a fantastic day for Dominican children and citizens as they happily enjoyed Easter and the new park.
