World Cup 2023 hopes still alive for West Indies after losing to Netherlands in Superover

Harare, Zimbabwe: West Indies can still qualify for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, India, even though they lost yesterday against West Indies. Yesterday, during the World Cup qualifier match against the Netherlands, West Indies lost in super over by 24 runs.

The Netherlands achieved a world record by scoring 30 runs in a super over. Logan van Beek hit every ball out of the boundary; he punched three fours and three sixes.

They must win all three games against Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Oman. That will take them to six points. They will then have to hope that not more than one other team crosses six. There are multiple scenarios of how that can happen, but most of them are either convoluted or improbable.

But it was a difficult task for Windies. They have two win in all three remaining world cup qualifiers match against Sri Lanka, Oman and Scotland. Winning all three games will get the Windies six-point, and hopes that no other team gains six.

If any other team like West Indies succeeded in gaining six points, then the selection will be made on average. The team with more runs has a high run rate, takes more wickets, and will go to India to play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Currently, the Windies fan was disappointed and in disbelief that their loving team lost to the Netherlands despite scoring a tremendous score in the first innings. By winning the toss and batting first, West Indies scored 374 runs by losing six wickets. Nicholas Pooran gave another dominating performance, scoring 104 in just 65 balls.

From the Netherlands’ side, Indian-origin batsman Teja Nidamanuru remains the top scorer in the match, scoring 111 in 76 balls. They gave a tough fight to the Windies and tied the game in the last over by levelling the score.

Later, Logan van Beek scored a record-breaking 30 in the super-over. He also did the damage with the ball by dismissing two Windies batters. According to super over rules, losing two wickets in a super over will be considered the end of innings. West Indies collapsed at 8 with one ball remaining.
