IND vs WI: West Indies batting collapses on day 1

Roseau, Dominica: Team west indies got all out on day 1 of India’s tour of West Indies’ first test match. After the World Cup disappointment, the Windies failed to make a strong comeback and collapsed by just scoring 150 in 63.4 overs.

The match was played at Windsor Park Stadium, Dominica. Rain was observed one day at the beginning of the match, but it had no negative impact on the game.

Brian Lara, the West Indies legend, was seen helping the Windies batsmen during the training as he was appointed performance mentor. It was expected that Windies’ batting performance would improve, but the team collapsed early in front of Indian bowlers.

By winning the toss, West Indies chose to bat first. Skipper Kraigg Braithwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul came to bat first. The opening batsmen contributed 32 runs for the first wicket.

West Indies lose their first wicket in 12.5 overs as Tagenarine. The ball accidentally went in the wrong direction, hitting the stumps after making contact with the bat.

The Windies captain got dismissed by Indian spinner R. Ashwin after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma grabbed the catch. Later, Wickets keep coming raising the tensions of the Windies.

Alick Athanaze, the Dominican youngster who played his debut match in West Indies yesterday, remains the only batter from the West Indies side who scored 40+ runs. He remains the top scorer of day 1, scoring 47 runs by hitting 6 fours and 1 six.

He was disappointed after dismissal due to not reaching 50. It could’ve been a remarkable achievement for Windies’ youngster to score a half-century on debut.

With 24 overs remaining on day 1, the Indian team came to bat with skipper Rohit Sharma and youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. It was also Jaiswal’s debut game, which BCCI chose in the Indian squad after his domination season in Indian Premier League (IPL). They remain not out, playing 23 overs on day one and scoring 80 runs.
