Deopersaud pilots Albion to Republic Bank Under-23 Inter-Club Berbice zone title

Georgetown, Guyana: Kumar Deopersaud bowled Albion to victory with four wickets as they defeated Blairmont in a Super Over when yesterday’s Republic Bank Nationwide Under23 Inter-Club Super50 Berbice leg finals ended in a thriller.

Both teams posted 90 during their respective innings. Damion Cecil led with 28 for Albion batting first, along with 17 from Afraz Budhoo; the duo led their team’s batting.

The bowling for Blairmont was spearheaded by Akash Ragobeer, who took 4 for 19, while Nigel Deodat and Seon Glasgow snared two wickets each.

Blairmont then failed to eclipse their opponent’s score and was stuck on 90 as Glasgow (29) and Chris Harry (27) were unable to complete the task.

Deopersaud was the destroyer with four wickets in the regulation period of the game, along with Leon Cecil, who also picked up four scalps, to give Albion fighting a chance.

However, the thrilling Super Over saw Albion rallying to victory off the last ball thanks to the heroics of Deopersaud, who snagged two more wickets after being entrusted with the most important over of the game, finishing with six wickets in total while marshalling his team to the title.

Albion and Essequibo champions North Essequibo now await the Demerara champions in the National Playoffs, which will be played on September 7 and 8.

The RBL Nationwide Under-23 Inter-Club Super50 Tournament continues Thursday, with Transport taking on DCC at GCC in a round three encounter of the Demerara zone.
