Saint Lucia Kings ends Guyana’s undefeated streak at Providence Stadium

Georgetown, Guyana: Saint Lucia Kings ended Guyana Amazon Warriors’ winning streak at their home ground Providence Stadium. The Zouks On Fire packed victory at Guyana’s fortress by seven wickets with 15 balls remaining.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. The Guyanese batting line-up was observed struggling against Saint Lucia’s bowling. Not a good start for Amazon warriors, as the opening batters collapsed early without making a significant impact.

Saim Ayub, Pakistan’s youngster who scored 85 in the previous match against Jamaica Tallawahs, was dismissed at 16 yesterday. Sikander Raza, a Pakistani-Zimbabwean cricketer, was sent to pavilion with a full-length delivery angling towards the leg.

Ayub lifts his leg, looking for a big hit, but misses it completely. Unlucky for Matthew Nandu, a direct hit from Sean Williams brought first wicket for Saint Lucia Kings.

Shai Hope scored 38 runs in 35 balls, hitting 5 fours in a defensive innings. The Kings brought in Roston Chase, and he got the wicket on the first delivery of the 13th over. The trap against Shai Hope worked, bringing his innings to an end at 38.

Azam Khan came to attack number four and provided Guyana Amazon Warriors with a defensive score. He remained the top scorer from his side, scoring 40 in 35 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.

In first innings, Guyana Amazon Warriors scored 167 runs in twenty overs. Saint Lucia Kings needed 168 runs in twenty overs to win the match.

Romario Shephard, the Guyanese, provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Johnson Charles. He strikes on the very first delivery of his spell. Charles gets stuck in the crease with no foot movement while the ball hits the pad.

Shephard made a loud appeal and official declared him out. Colin Munro played another incredible innings, scoring a half-century. He scored 53 in 45 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan dominated Guyana Amazon Warriors, led his team towards victory, ending GAW’s winning streak in CPL 2023. He scored 86 runs in 49 balls, hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes.

Captain Sikandar Raza finishes the game with a boundary and seals the victory at Guyana’s home ground.
