Barbados Pride storm to victory over Winwards

Kyle Mayers had a welcome return to form, scoring a ferocious hundred as the Barbados Pride defeated the Winward Islands Volcanoes by 8 wickets on the DLS Method on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

The opening batsmen struck a stunning 48-ball hundred as unbeaten Barbados Pride escaped the clutches of the adverse weather to trounce luckless Windward Islands Volcanoes by eight wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system and storm to the top of the Regional Super50 Cup standings.

With Barbados Pride in pursuit of a revised target of 148 off 21 overs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, the left-handed Mayers belted a stroke-filled unbeaten 107, helping his side to their target in the 15th over and to their second win in three matches.

The Volcanoes batted first and posted 241 for 8. There were a lot of starts from the Volcanoes batsmen, but only experienced opener, Johnson Charles, converted his start into a 50+ score. Charles hit 7 fours and 3 sixes in his 59 off 48 balls while Jeremy Solozano contributed 40 off 68, Kavem Hodge made 34 off 38, and Larry Edward added 32 not out.

Spin twins, Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase were brilliant with the ball, bowling their 10-over quotas, taking 2/24 and 2/29, respectively.

Due to rain, Barbados were given a revised target of 148 to make in 21 overs, and Kyle Mayers got them there in a hustle. The all-rounder, who opened the batting, absolutely belted the Winwards bowling to the tune of 107 runs from just 52 balls, hitting 9 boundaries and 9 maximums.

The Pride lost 2 early wickets, but Shai Hope played a supporting role to finish 29 not out while Mayers carried them to victory.

Darel Cyrus took 1/23 and Ryan John 1/33 in 3 overs apiece as they were also subject to Mayers’ wrath.
