The reigning champions, Jamaica Scorpions, came into their game against the West Indies Academy in dire need of a win. Still, they’ll have to keep searching as the Academy came out victorious by 6 wickets on the DLS Method at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Jamaica posted 263 for 9 batting first and were propelled by Kirk McKenzie’s 84 from 102 balls, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Skipper Rovman Powell hit 6 boundaries and a six in his 53 off 55 balls, while Jeavor Royal chipped in with 27 off 25 deliveries.
Academy captain Nyeem Young bowled beautifully, taking figures of 5/49 in 8 overs, while McKenny Clarke took 2/27 in 4 overs, and Kevin Wickham was impressive in picking up 1/30 in 10 overs.
Inclement weather meant that the Academy would be given a revised target of 227 from 40 overs for victory, and they got there with 15 balls to spare.
Teddy Bishop top-scored with a run-a-ball 67, which included 3 fours and 2 sixes, and got tremendous support from Leonardo Julien, who made 52 off 48 balls laced with 6 fours and a six.
