Port of Spain: Marvin Philips, the Trinidadian football goalkeeper, announces his retirement from international duty after 16 years. The Williamsville-born made his debut for the Trinidad men’s senior football team against Panama in 2007.
The 39-year-old announced his retirement in a social media post early Thursday morning, which reads, “It comes with a very heavy heart and sadness that I tell I’m hanging up my gloves with immediate effect from the international stage.”
“I won’t be leaving the game just yet, but I’ll continue to be contributing professionally in the local leagues, playing and sharing the knowledge I gained throughout my career.”
Philips is currently serving as goalkeeper for club AC Port of Spain after spending four years at Indian club NEROCA FC. While announcing his retirement from Trinidad National team, he clarified that he is not leaving the game yet and will continue to play at club levels.
During his emotional announcement, the Trinidadian expressed that he thoroughly enjoyed every second of playing football for his country and being allowed to represent.
Since 2007, Marvin Philips made 84 appearances for his country. He thanked everyone who played a part in his career along the way. The Trinidad football fans wished him a farewell and appreciated his performances in major tournaments.
After 16 years of service, Marvin Philips announced his retirement from International Football today through his social media account.
Speaking about his club football career, Philips has played for several Trinidadian clubs and played for Indian club NEROCA from 2015 to 2019.
The 39-year-old didn’t say goodbye to football as he continued to play at club levels. Currently, he is playing for AC Port of Spain.
