Elective surgeries cancelled due to lack of staff in California: Reports

In California, the health department faces a lack of health care workers by which elective surgeries have been delayed. According to the information provided, lung transplants have been cancelled due to the shortage of staff members in the hospitals.

Moreover, in Los Angeles, many sick individuals are waiting for their medical procedures as an ill patient was waiting for a new lung for a transplant scheduled for the previous Friday, but it has been nullified. In San Diego, last week, a 7-year-old girl was suffering from severe pain in her brain, she was going to have brain surgery, but now it has been annulled.

As per the sources, in Arcadia, the maximum number of people is around 60, and they were going to have surgery, but due to some issues, it has been cancelled this week. Approximately 11 surgical operations have been cancelled in Folsom since the previous week. Furthermore, a patient in the Anaheim hospital was on the wheeled stretcher because the doctors were going to perform back surgery. Still, after the passage of three hours, he was sent back to the home because there was no health care facility available at the hospital.

In California, the COVID-19 infections have diminished the number of staff members such as nurses, anesthesiologists and other imperative people who have significant value in health care. The health care centres have called of the surgeries that are not much necessary at this moment. The surgeries include knees surgery, back pain, kidney and bladder stone removal, removing hernia and cataracts, and other surgeries.

Meanwhile, concerned about a growing shortage of specialised health care workers, the California Department of Public Health is evaluating whether to issue an order to hospitals across the state to suspend elective surgeries in cases where patients would not be immediately harmed.
